Step Into The Blue

Grason Ratowsky x Soho House x Bombay Sapphire

Soho Farmhouse Ibiza, 2026

A site-responsive multi form installation unfolding across different locations of Soho Farmhouse Ibiza. The project extended Ratowsky’s process-driven painting into an open environment through a sequence of interventions: draped forms activating the entryway, a pathway installation, a floating work within the pool, and a projected film documenting the painting process, all in tones of blue for Bombay’s “Step Into The Blue” campaign.

Rather than staging a fixed object, the installation operated through conditions—reflection, movement, and the instability of figure and ground. Water functioned as both material and mirror, continually reconfiguring the work through light, motion, and shifting viewpoints. Across the site, distinctions between surface and space collapsed, allowing form to emerge and dissolve in real time.

This concept for Step Into The Blue at Soho Farmhouse Ibiza explores the relationship between positive and negative space, and how perception shifts depending on what we choose to foreground. What appears as form in one moment can feel like absence in another. An image can be read through what is present, through what is removed, or through how those two states exist together. The works are grounded in the idea of duality, the presence of opposing forces existing at the same time. Through inversion and mirroring, images can be read in multiple ways, as positive form, as absence, or as a complete entity when both are held together. This invites a reconsideration of habitual ways of seeing, creating space for perception to shift and remain open.

The work encourages reflection on what we choose to bring forward as important and what we allow to fall into the background, both visually and in everyday life, and how these choices shape experience. Rather than prescribing a single meaning, the project allows for a speculative experience, encouraging viewers to project their own interpretations, emotions, and associations onto the work. At its core, this Step Into The Blue installation returns to the balance between form and void, exploring how positive and negative space held together can open new ways of seeing through visual, spatial, and experiential dialogue with abstracted form, water, reflection, and the color blue.
